Sunday Social Activities

Networking Event 1:  Bike Vancouver’s Historic Sea Wall

Cost: $25

The Vancouver Seawall is a gorgeous piece of urban infrastructure beloved by locals and visitors alike. It is a well-paved, meandering path that follows the coast line from downtown all the way to Point Grey. The Seawall combines the best things about Vancouver: scenery, exercise, people, bustling marine life, and the beautiful connection between built and natural environments.

Taking a bike tour along the Seawall is the perfect way to view many of the city's most popular landmarks and attractions, such as Stanley Park, the Lions Gate Bridge, and English Bay (if you get really ambitious you could even pedal your way through Yaletown to the Telus World of Science and Granville Island). The CACEE Social Committee will be leading two bike tours as well as a deliciously social post-bike-ride networking opportunity put to help you have an afternoon of fun (and exercise) on the Seawall!

Your registration will include a one-day rental of a one-speed tour bike and tour.

* Transit costs will apply if you choose to take the bus to Stanley Park.  Post-tour appetizers and beverages are at own cost

Networking Event 2:  Shop till you Drop

Cost:  $15

Is “Confessions of a Shopaholic” the title of your life story?  If yes, then this is the tour for you.  Join us for a guided shopping frenzy of Vancouver’s diverse streets and malls.

The tour will begin with street shopping on Robson, just a few blocks from the conference hotel. Here you'll find many of the best shops in Vancouver and plenty of places to eat so you can keep up your shopping stamina.

Next, Shopaholics will have the option of the megamall experience or touristy, souvenir street shops.

Metrotown: Hop on the Sky Train and get off at the Metrotown Station. Here you'll find three adjoining malls - Station Square, Metrotown Centre, and Eaton Square. Together they comprise over 450 shops, two food fairs, several restaurants, two giant grocery stores, two cinema complexes with 15 theatres and a hotel.

Or:

Gastown: Travel by foot through the cobblestone streets where you’ll find distinctive architecture and character. The heart of Gastown boasts gorgeous views of snow-capped mountains and the Burrard Inlet. A variety of restaurants, shops, and boutiques can be found as well as kitschy souvenir stores are popular in the area.

After a hard afternoon of shopping, meet at the Showcase Restaurant and Lounge back at the hotel where you can cash in your pre-paid voucher for a snack or beverage.

*Additional transportation costs may apply depending on destination and mode of transportation.

Networking Event 3:  An Afternoon of Wine Tasting

Cost: $40

Do you think of wine when you hear words like ‘complex’, ‘full bodied’ and ‘earthy’?

Then perhaps you should join us on the Marriott Pinnacle patio for casual conversation, stunning views, and fabulous local BC wines. Your sommelier will walk you through five of BC’s more famous wines, each paired with a local cheese.

No need to walk, run, or even ride a bike to this social event…the only parts of your body that will be exercised are your olfactory receptors.

SUNSET VIEW OF VANCOUVER FROM ATOP GROUSE MOUNTAIN

Following a fulfilling day of inspiring guest speakers and valuable workshops, join us at the base of the mountain to visit the ‘Grey Wolves of Grouse’. Experience these endangered animals in their natural environment, where they live and play in a protected five-acre mountain habitat.

Next, embark upon North America's largest aerial Skyride for a one-mile journey into the clouds. Navigating over towering evergreens, take in a glorious panoramic sunset view, spanning across Vancouver and distant coastal mountains beyond.

Upon arrival, you’re greeted by savory scents of crisp mountain air, while undertones of pine and fir carry in the breeze. A quick stroll takes you to a wilderness sanctuary where two orphaned Grizzly Bears habituate amid nature, protected and safe.

Head back to the Chalet for a high-definition cinema experience like no other -  Theatre in the Sky,  presenting "Born to Fly", an up-close and personal perceptive of British Columbia's natural splendor. Experience from a bird’s eye view what it’s like to climb BC’s tallest peaks, hover the great blue Pacific, and soar above rich rainforest.

On to dinner, where the Social Event Escapade offers an opportunity to network with other employer recruiters and career services professionals, while you indulge in west-coast epicurean delights and participate in an Olympic-themed extravaganza!
