Job Description / Duties

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Work with other managers and the director to set vision and strategic direction for Student Success, ensuring a successful student journey that meets HSB and student expectations.
Establish, maintain, and update service standards, goals and objectives for the Graduate Career Development Centre team. Develop and implement plans, establish KPIs and reporting, and track and monitor to achieve goals.
Be an expert in systems that support the management of career development, such as Orbis Outcome. Advocate for new functionalities and implement usage of such to improve operational efficiencies.
Promote a collaborative and cross-functional team approach to the work environment through excellent role modeling and coaching. Support staff in developing a positive, high trust working relationship with each other, cross units, and with faculty and students. Ensure staff work effectively as a team.

Career Development Programming

Research, develop, and maintain evidence-based, strategic career development programming.
Stay current with government policies, industry trend, and student demand related to career development.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of career development programs at peer institutions, create new programs, evaluate existing programs, modify and eliminate as necessary.
Collaborate with the Manager, Undergraduate Career Development Centre in creating and maintaining of programs, and ensuring alignment of services provided.

Business Development

Develop and maintain a network consisting of students, faculty, employers, alumni, donors, government, and others who advocate for career development locally, regionally, and nationally. Leverage network to facilitate the success of the Graduate Career Development Centre in meeting the needs of students, employers, and community partners.
Initiate and manage partnerships with employers, the Calgary community and non-governmental organizations to advance career development and employment outcome for students. Work collaboratively to bring diverse and meaningful opportunities to enhance student experience.
Ensure an effective online presence of the Graduate Career Development Centre to facilitate and increase engagement from students, employers and the community.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications:

Education/Experience

Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent; Master of Business Administration preferred
Minimum of 7 years of experience in a large organization, preferably in a university or other post-secondary setting, with experience in career learning and development, stakeholder relationship development and management, student services, student experience, and program management
Minimum of 1 year of management and leadership experience
A combination of education and experience may be considered

Requirements:

Knowledge of industry, particularly within Alberta but also nationally and internationally and a strong understanding of business roles and assignments
Knowledge of university business programs and academic and administrative policies and procedures
An ability to inspire others using leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills
Strong time management, communication, critical thinking, creative, analytical skills and the ability to make sound judgements
Ability to manage complex staff relations in a unionized environment while working towards a common goal
Project management skills with demonstrated success in planning, organizing, and managing projects

Assets:

The Career Centre in the Haskayne School of Business is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Manager, Graduate Career Development Centre.

The Haskayne School of Business (HSB) has approximately 4,000 full- and part-time students enrolled in bachelor's, master's, doctorate, and executive education programs. The School boasts over 25,000 alumni in more than 60 countries. The vision of the Haskayne School of Business is to be an internationally recognized centre of excellence for business education, research, and community outreach.

The Manager, Graduate Career Development Centre reports to the Director, Student Success, and is a member of the Student Success leadership team. Through initiatives inside and outside the classrooms, Student Success elevates student experience, transforms learning, and equips students with competencies and skills for career and lifelong development.

This position is responsible for leadership, management, and operational matters in the Graduate Career Development Centre. The Centre has three groups of clients: students, employers, and faculty. The Centre provides employers with a total range of recruiting services including: job postings, electronic student résumés, résumé collection and interview coordination.

On the student side the Centre provides workshops, seminars, résumé critiques and consultations to develop student skills, competencies, knowledge, attitudes and experience they need for success as they pursue employment opportunities. The Centre also reports on student development and employment outcome, conducts environmental scanning on industry trends, current employment tactics and business school strategies to competitively market students and alumni.
