Job Description / Duties

Career Services provide university-wide support for career development and the growth of experiential learning opportunities. We empower and support students and recent graduates to design a rewarding career journey that leverages their education and skills to impact the world positively.

The Career Educator & Coach engages relevant stakeholders (e.g. students, alumni, faculties, departments, instructors, employers, community organizations, etc.) in the design, promotion, delivery, and assessment of all programs, services and resources (including workshops, e-modules, events, 1-1 and group advising, etc.); Collaborates with campus partners to integrate and embed career and employment-ready skills development and experiential learning where students and recent graduates are already engaged; Supports students from equity-deserving groups facing barriers to career paths, employment and experiential learning opportunities, and meet the intersectional and evolving needs of our diverse student population; Cultivates diverse and "real" career stories that normalize change, uncertainty, non-linearity, failure, and resilience; Leverages our alumni networks and employer connections to expand our knowledge of recruitment, labour market, and industry trends; and works within community with other career-minded professionals and shares their expertise and resources to strengthen knowledge and practices across Queen's University.

This position advises students on potential career opportunities based on their area of study by utilizing self-assessment techniques, work search practices, and labour market research. This position assists students with building the skills and confidence needed to secure employment. This position also develops and delivers career workshops and resources that accommodate diverse audiences and life experiences.

The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work evenings and weekends.

What you will do 

  • Advises students on the relationship between degree of study and career options utilizing self-assessment techniques, work search practices, labour market research, and the evaluation of further education options.
  • Assists students with building the skills and confidence needed to secure employment, includes effective job search strategies, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation and practice, and preparing for career fairs.
  • Coordinates and facilitates workshops and presentations to groups of students of various sizes, tailored to specific academic programs, career areas, and/or specific needs.
    Uses knowledge of careers, theory, and labour market conditions to develop presentations, worksheets, promotional material, and resources for display at events or on website.
  • Coordinates outreach activities in collaboration with faculty, staff, and other partners to address students’ needs as well as available career development and experiential learning programs.
  • Develops and implements annual program reviews and evaluations, and recommends and implements program improvements and new services.
  • Facilitates conversations about career-related issues between students and alumni on social media group sites.
  • Coordinates the delivery of the resume clinic service, including scheduling appointments, professional development, and training.
  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required Education

  • Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields in adult education or social work preferred.

Required Experience

  • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
  • Experience delivering career coaching considered an asset. and
  • Previous experience developing and delivering workshops considered an asset. and
  • Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset. and
  • Experience advising students considered an asset. and
  • Experience in planning and/or managing projects considered an asset.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • A coaching certificate is considered an asset (e.g., ACC, PCC, MCC, CPCC, CEC, etc.).
  • Additional teaching certifications (e.g., TESL, etc.) considered an asset.
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.

Salary: $55,670
