Category: EducationAs part of the York community, the Career Centre is a team of professionals who work with students, new grads, staff, faculty, and employers to support students and new grads (up to two years after graduation) in the development of career self management skills.
In this excellent temporary opportunity the Job Search Advisor & Resource Coordinator provides informed and responsive in-person job search support to students and recent graduates and to gather, evaluate and maintain the Career Centre’s career exploration and job search resource materials. The incumbent works as a member of the Programs & Services team to facilitate individual employment and job search advising and job search workshops, and to maintain up-to-date career resource materials. The Job Search Advisor & Resource Coordinator will assist students with action plans and skills in order for them to be successful in their individual job search and broader career goals.
Education:
University Degree, plus specialized training in job search strategies and career development or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
Two years’ recent related experience facilitating job search and career skills development (e.g. advising students on job search skills, developing and delivering job search skills workshops, etc.) preferably working with students and new graduates in a fast-paced post-secondary environment.
Knowledge of the following: current job search strategies, methods and use; demonstrated skill/ability in the following areas: advising clients in job search strategies, workshop design, development and evaluation using adult education principles; facilitation skills; highly developed interpersonal skills; excellent public speaking and presentation skills; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively within a highly collaborative, team-centred environment to meet unit goals and objectives; excellent organizational skills including ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands; good judgment and decision making skills; strong initiative; genuine interest and enthusiasm of emerging job search strategies, methods and use as evidenced by an ongoing commitment to keeping abreast of new developments in the field; punctual and reliable. Proficiency with MS Office Suite (ie. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) at the intermediate level, electronic mail and computerized scheduling (Lotus Notes preferred) and database management.

Salary: Annual salary of $52,417 will be prorated based on the number of weeks worked.
