Student Services – Newnham Campus
The Coordinator of the Success@Seneca program works with faculty, administrators and support staff from a variety of areas to organize and plan a variety of student activities intended to increase the student success rate within designated programs. The Coordinator will also provide pre-advisement to prospective Seneca students.
• Advises prospective students on Seneca academic programs that align with their career interests and assists with career exploration if they are unsure of their career goals.
• Communicates in-depth knowledge of the eligibility requirements for academic programs, curriculum details and career prospects.
• Provides leadership with respect to the orientation, communication, and organizational components of the program.
• Reviews relevant literature, related stats and reports to assist in the planning and evaluation of the program; researches and makes recommendations; reports regularly on the progress of the project with feedback for enhancements and modifications of the program.
• Prepares and facilitates presentations to create awareness of and support for the program.
• Participates in the development and implementation of the Blackboard sites to communicate with the students and coaches.
• Acts as a point of contact for problem-solving in relation to most aspects of the program.
• Contributes to the development and monitoring of the budget for the project.
• Coordinates the development and implementation of an evaluation process, including key measures of success.
• Develops a communication plan for the project to inform the GAP/AST/PBS students and build enthusiasm for the program and to create awareness for purposes of recruiting coaches for the program using a variety of methods.
• Coordinates communication strategies for the program; works to develop communication and promotional materials; liaises with Student Services to utilize the telephone campaign and the yourFUTURE@Seneca website for communication purposes.
• Coordinates the development of an orientation website for the project.
• Plans and coordinates recruitment, selection, training and on-going support of coaches for the project, including: preparing and making presentations for purposes of recruiting coaches; contributing to the development of criteria and process for the selection of the coaches; developing and delivering training sessions and materials; providing on-going support and guidance including maintaining regular communication and facilitating opportunities for team development.
• Plans and coordinates orientation sessions for approximately 200 students in Fall and Winter semesters including: in consultation develops the content and delivery of the student orientation sessions; works closely with the Student Life Coordinator to ensure a smooth integration with the Campus orientation; liaises with other service areas for purposes of identifying speakers and coordinating all aspects of the orientation sessions; develops promotional materials and oversees site logistics/equipment/schedules/food etc.
• Develops/implements a risk management checklist to ensure safety of activities and appropriate evaluations tools for the orientation sessions.
• Develops, plans and coordinates the recruitment, connection and ongoing support for the Success@Seneca students; prepares and facilitates presentations for the purposes of recruiting students; develops a marketing plan to recruit students using various communication tools; acts as a point of contact for students and advises with respect to the program and provides ongoing guidance to Success@Seneca students throughout the semester.
• Demonstrated competencies attained through a minimum of a 3-year degree/diploma in sociology, psychology or related field.
• Minimum of three years of progressive experience in a student services function within a college or university system, including experience working directly with students.
• Previous advisement experience with students/prospective students.
• Knowledge of Seneca resources, services, student life opportunities and knowledge of all of the academic programs.
• Working knowledge of Seneca’s academic programs, entrance requirements and career prospects for academic disciplines.
• Experience related to the supervision and training of part-time staff/students, as well as making public presentations for instructional purposes.
• Experience in planning, coordinating and evaluating special events, including risk management.
• Courses, training or demonstration of equivalent experience in conflict resolution, negotiation and student success initiatives.
• Excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills (both written and oral) are essential to interact with the College’s multi-cultural/racial/able students, faculty and staff.
• Highly developed program planning, facilitation, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and to deal with multiple demands and ambiguity.
• Demonstrated ability to manage group dynamics, to provide leadership, ability to resolve conflicts and gain cooperation effectively.
• Working knowledge of research principles/practices to develop best practices, tracking and evaluation measures for the program.
• Proficient computer skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, and experience with Web technology and on-line communications.
START DATE: October 29, 2012 to November 8, 2013
HOURS: 35 hours per week (overtime as required). Monday to Friday - 9am-5pm
NOTE: A practical assessment will be administered during the recruitment process.
