Job Description / Duties

Accountabilities/Tasks and Duties: (Results and outcomes expected when roles are carried out successfully, with supporting details on how results are accomplished):

The incumbent develops, evaluates and implements changes in the content and delivery of the following services and programs in response to student and industry needs:
Student Career Advising (60%):
• Coach students on the development of and identification of transferable skills, and correlation between their experience and industry job postings.

• Introduce competency development with students and matching to industry job postings.

• Review résumés and provides advice on résumé structure and matching existing skills/competencies to job postings qualifications and duties.

• Deconstruct job postings and advise students on identification of transferable skills and their existing competencies.

• Prepare students for summer, Co-op, and full-time job interviews by conducting practice interviews based on industry job postings.

• In collaboration with the Manager, Career Centre, may also be required to assist students with Co-op placement: including communication with the work term supervisor(s), such as; adjusting to the work environment (evaluating initial expectations) and evaluate when it is necessary for a student to seek further university counseling services. These activities are accomplished through personal appointments, e-mail, telephone and work site evaluation visits.

• Maintain accurate and up to date Co-op records.

• In collaboration with the Manager, Career Centre, may also be required to resolve issues such as student or employers grievances relating to the nature of the work and performance in accordance with Co-op program policies and practices.

• Assist students with part- and full-time employment, as well as summer placement.

• Coach students on the hidden job market, utilization of social media such as LinkedIn and networking techniques to identify job opportunities.

• Develop and facilitate seminars/tutorials on various topics related to job search.

• Support International students to have a better understanding of the Canadian workplace culture and expectations.

• Administering surveys to evaluate the services offered by the Career Centre and the resulting employment and salaries of graduates.

• Developing programs and services to provide students and alumni with the knowledge, skills and tools to manage their careers.

Stakeholder Relations (15%):
• Responsible for developing relationships with student clubs, appropriate faculty members, and professional associations in order to design and implement appropriate career decisions and job search methods for students and alumni.

• Provide career planning advice and coaching to Haskayne alumni.

Sector Marketing (10%):
• Develop positive relationships with external stakeholders, specifically networking and relationship management with industry HR professionals and hiring managers.

• Research and analyze employment trends and industry opportunities.

• Contribute to the development and execution of the Co-op marketing strategy for the Career Centre to identify and secure an adequate number of suitable employment opportunities for Co-op students.

• Contribute to Career Centre’s business development strategies and plans, and actively promote the Career Centre and the Haskayne School of Business to industry.

• Support the University’s strategic objectives and direction - Eyes High - when interacting with industry representatives.

Service Development and Team Initiatives (15 %):
ֳ• Generate statistical summaries of client contact (seminars, consultations, résumé critiques) in a timely basis. Analyze results and adapt future service offerings.

• Work effectively within a team environment in service development and delivery.

• Develop student and employer recruiting/engagement policies/strategies.

• Work in a team based environment to meet Career Centre goals, and to continue professional development as required.

• Attendance at recruitment activities as required.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications/Expertise Required:
• 3 - 4 years of progressive Career Advisory experience or a combination of a minimum of 1 to 2 years of progressive Career advisory experience and the completion of post-secondary education (An equivalent combination of skills and experience will be considered) .

• 2 to 4 years of demonstrated experience with strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines.

• 3 to 5 years' experience within a professional office environment.

• Proven Intermediate to Senior skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).

• Ability to interact with corporate recruiters and facilitate their successful recruitment of students.

• Understanding of industry interview and screening processes and skilled in advising students of industry interview and screening techniques.

• Knowledge of business functional areas or industries, ability to develop metrics and evaluation systems, and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services.

• Knowledge of industry, job market, and trends in order to target industries and clients.

• Proven excellent public speaking, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills combined with experience developing and sustaining relationships with clients.

• A positive and professional attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success.

• A high level of tact and professionalism and a strong work ethic are required.

• Proven excellent organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills are required. A high attention to detail is required.

• Proven ability to develop career development educational material.

• Proven ability to facilitate workshops/tutorials.

• Must have strong listening and coaching skills, and an ability to ask questions to provide services with high standards.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high level of interruptions. Requires excellent time management skills to prioritize and meet deadlines.

• Must be able to remain calm in demanding situations, and appropriately deal with stress resulting from these situations.
• Must be open to change, to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments.

• Experience in marketing and business development is an asset.

• Knowledge of Canadian labour laws is an asset.

• Post-secondary environment experience is an asset.

The Haskayne School of Business has more than 3,000 full- and part-time students currently enrolled in Bachelor's, Master's, PhD and Executive Education programs. The School boasts 18,000 alumni in 60 countries. The School offers a full range of degree programs.
The incumbent delivers career and employment counseling to diverse domestic and a growing population of international students, including Co-op students and alumni.
