Rotman Commerce is a large, undergraduate, professional program within the Rotman School of Management and the Faculty of Arts and Science. Career opportunities and career success upon graduation are critical to successfully compete in the undergraduate business school market.
Central to this success is the development of quality, high-level external partnerships with corporate sectors to ensure long-term relationships with the top business firms in the world and Canada. Of equal importance is ensuring that Rotman Commerce students are fully supported in their career planning/job search activities throughout their undergraduate career such that they realize their career aspirations and view the Bachelor of Commerce and their educational investment as instrumental to this.
Reporting to the Associate Director. Career Centre, Rotman Commerce, the Relationship Manager is responsible for developing and managing the accounting industry portfolio. S/he plays a leadership role in developing and providing the highest quality of career development services to students in the Bachelor of Commerce program as well as the development of quality, high-level external partnerships within a corporate sector(s) to assure career opportunities for Rotman Commerce students.
The Relationship Manager works to support Rotman Commerce students in their career planning and job search skills development over the course of their academic program. The Relationship Manager is expected to understand not only the general career learning and programming needs of students as they advance through their academic program but s/he must understand the individual career goals of their client group (students) and provides counseling and coaching on the development of career plans that ensure the success of the individual. Likewise s/he works with the individual to redirect and restructure career planning and job search activities should their initial plan not be realizable.
S/he administers a variety of career assessment measurement tools (Career Leader), assists students in the interpretation of the feedback from these tools and provides counsel on how to incorporate this information into career success. The Relationship Manager develops and delivers supporting materials and workshops to students on careers and plans and executes other events and activities that will bring corporate partners and student together (example – internal and external networking events, mentoring programs, and industry/career specific events/student clubs).
On the corporate side, business development with new industry contacts as well as relationship management of existing corporate partnerships and the ‘up-selling/expanding of partnerships within and across an organization is a significant responsibility. The Relationship Manager is responsible for growing the career opportunities available within the accounting industry.
The incumbent is responsible for developing the strategy and outreach plan to establish and manage corporate relations within the accounting industry portfolio. The Corporate Partner should view the Relationship Manager as a valued, knowledgeable business partner who will work with the organization to define and develop short and long term recruiting strategies that will fill their talent gaps. The Relationship Manager will be one of the primary contacts for all prospective employers from this sector. Responsibilities in this area include maintaining relationships with current corporate recruiters, establishing relationships with new prospective employers by marketing Rotman Commerce and its students, hosting company information sessions and overseeing the on-campus recruiting processes for both graduate and summer employment and receiving and posting other job opportunities that become available outside of the campus recruiting process.
Qualifications
Education:
University degree in human resources, business or a related field. A relevant Masters degree is preferred. An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years full-time, relevant, progressively more senior experience within the accounting industry sector preferably in human resources, recruitment or other related field. Experience in working with senior stakeholders in the accounting industry plus a deep understanding of all accounting designations and appropriate requirements is required. Knowledge of the career services industry and university recruitment is required. Experience providing coaching/advice is required.
Other:
Experience in marketing, developing marketing strategies and promotional materials.
Proven ability to organize and handle a variety of projects, deadlines and schedules simultaneously and under minimal supervision.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a strong emphasis on influencing skills. Excellent presentation skills and the ability to speak to and lead large group presentations.
Outstanding organizational ability, thorough knowledge and understanding of job search skills, presentation skills and an ability to relate well to the highly diverse and demanding communities of students and businesses.
Knowledge of industry career options, trends and opportunities.
Outstanding customer service focus essential.
Must have a good understanding of business students and employment markets.
Ability to work independently, to set priorities and work schedules to meet deadlines.
Demonstrated decision-making skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Tact, discretion, sensitivity to confidential matters.
Able to work effectively with a wide variety of people at different levels of the University and with external stakeholders.
Strong computer skills: good knowledge of MS Office and an understanding of how to use databases effectively.
Valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle is an asset.
Travel required.
