Job Description / Duties

The Division of Co-operative Education is seeking a permanent Coordinator for Engineering Co-operative Education commencing as soon as possible. This is an Academic Staff position reporting to the Director of the Division of Co-operative Education.

Engineering Co-operative Education is responsible for the overall operation of the mandatory work term component of the Bachelor of Engineering Program for a student body of over 1,200 students with, approximately, a 75-25% male–female mix. Engineering Co-operative Education at Memorial is one of the most credible Co-operative Education programs in the country, placing up to 1,200 students a year with reputable employers locally, nationally, and internationally.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The duties and responsibilities of the Co-operative Education Coordinator include developing suitable work term opportunities, monitoring and evaluating students in the workplace, making promotion recommendations to Faculty Council, providing individual career and professional development counseling, managing the student placement process, developing and presenting professional development seminars, implementing appropriate reflective learning activities, and academic service. Travel is required within the province, nationally, and occasionally internationally.

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in engineering and be eligible for membership in Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL). Expertise in mechanical engineering is desirable; however, applications from all qualified candidates are strongly encouraged. A graduate degree in a relevant area of study would be considered an asset. Ideally, the applicants should also have prior experience in the operation of co-operative education programs at the university level. A past focus on, or genuine interest in, student development and student success is desirable as well. Broad experience and knowledge of the operations and functions of industry, government, and business along with the ability to provide effective liaison between students, employers, and the University is required.

Salary: Salary will be as stipulated by the Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty Association Collective Agreement.
