JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director, The Business Career Centre, the Associate Director, Corporate Relations is responsible for all strategic planning, programming, operational and administrative aspects of the Centre's interactions between our corporate partners and the School of Business.

The Associate Director leads a team that provides services to all programs within the School including: the four year undergraduate Commerce program; the full time MBA program; all full time Graduate programs including the Masters in International Business (MIB), Masters of Science in Management (MSc), and PhD programs; and all part time (MFin, MMA) and executive style (AMBA, EMBA, CQEMBA) masters level programs.

The incumbent is responsible for collaborating with the Director on strategic planning for both the Centre as a whole and for the Corporate Relations program. The Associate Director develops and manages to the annual operating plan and corresponding budget for the program. The incumbent is solely responsible for recruiting, selecting, and training and maintaining standards of performance for all full time and contract staff under their authority. The incumbent has regular contact with students from all programs within the school and may provide career advice and seminar leadership on a limited basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Planning & Management

• As a key member of the Business Career Centre Leadership Team, along with the Director, is responsible for the strategic direction, planning, budgeting and overall delivery of the Corporate Relations programming.
• Participates in the creation of the Centre's three (3) year strategic plan, oversight of the Centre's annual performance metrics and each operating area's performance against the annual operating plans, measures of success and corresponding budgets.
• As requested, collaborates with the Director on major centre decisions, course corrections and issues management as they arise.
• Develops strategic partnerships with key contacts within organizations and facilitates the transfer of value-added knowledge into the Business Career Centre team informing all programming.
• In consultation with the Director and other Associate Directors, develops and implements new program initiatives.
• Participates in policy setting, strategic planning and program upgrades and/or changes for all programs under their authority. Compiles and analyses evaluative data to monitor program effectiveness. Researches and makes recommendations on new program initiatives, including budget implications, to the Director for approval.
• Responsible for conducting research into corporate relations programs being delivered by other top tier business schools.
• Manages and oversees all financial and human resource aspects of the Corporate Relationships program including annual budget preparation, implementation of new programs and staff supervision.
Program Management

A major component of the Corporate Relations program is the design and execution of the annual Corporate Contact Plan. This plan ensures the incumbent, the Director, the Manager, Alumni Engagement and the contract Corporate Relations Reps are all making the necessary contact with primary and secondary corporate partners such that the relationship between those partners, the Centre and QSB is a robust as possible.

• Creates and implements the annual corporate relations plan for each program which includes scheduling all activities at opening sessions, during normal class time, during videoconference weekends, residential sessions and off-site times.
• Provides primary oversight for corporate engagement and relationship programming that serves all job seeking students in the system at any one time. To this end, the incumbent designs and operationalizes the annual corporate relations program which includes ensuring that the right corporate partners are identified and targeted, that their business and talent needs are understood, that a relationship with the Centre and school is nurtured, that their employment opportunities, both public and hidden, are posted on our internal job board, that student responses to posted jobs are processed, and that the corporate's interviewing needs are accommodated.
• Collaborates with the Business Career Centre team to ensure that there will be an appropriately equipped supply of students into the corporate talent acquisition environment.
• Ensures that the incumbent, the Director, the Centre and the School are all in a positive relationship with all representatives of all of the school's primary and secondary corporate partners.
• Promotes the student populations to corporate partners in Canada, the U.S. and around the world, by ensuring that they are aware of the talent here at the School, that programs are in place to cause the interaction between front line corporate reps and students and by following up with students and/or alumni after they have secured employment. This promotion may include: production and distribution of resume books, creation of events that cause the interaction between corporate reps and our students, and the presentation of select groups of students to meet corporate requests.
• Provides advice on content for student classroom programming in teaching career management and planning.
• Collaborates extensively with all members of the Business Career Centre team ensuring that all areas have a realistic and up-to-date understanding of the corporate environment in general and the talent needs and opportunities of corporate partners specifically in Canada but also in North America and around the world.
Human Resources Management

• The incumbent is responsible for supervising the Corporate Relationships team, which is made up of one (1) full time Corporate Relations Coordinator and up to ten (10) contract Corporate Relations Representatives located in major cities across Canada, the U.S. and Europe.
• Leads the recruitment and selection of staff and provides orientation and training both initially and on an ongoing basis. Manages all staff involved in program delivery ensuring their effectiveness in working with program participants. Responsible for reinforcing established processes to ensure all staff follow protocols in working with individuals. Leads by example by modeling the behaviours expected from staff as they interact with corporate partners and program participants. Manages the client-contractor relationship with regard to all contracted Corporate Relations Representatives and establishes appropriate hours for all staff, based on the program needs.
• Must also be available to respond to requests for assistance from staff during various program seasons. Activities regularly include meetings with staff in other cities.
• Monitors performance of staff and provides one-on-one coaching as required and conducts staff performance evaluations.

Qualifications / Required Skills

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• University degree required along with ten years of related work experience in a business environment. A Master's degree is preferred.
• Must be able to demonstrate significant supervisory, management and leadership experience and success.
• Must have a minimum of 5 years' experience leading a team of business development and/or corporate relations professionals.
• Understands the talent needs of corporations/businesses.
• Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

DECISION MAKING:

As a member of the management team, determines:
o How to plan, implement and evaluate strategies for the program;
o Appropriate methods to execute program strategies;
o Appropriate budgets and make recommendations for annual and long term budget planning;
o Determine program effectiveness and recommend changes accordingly.
• Makes budget resource decisions to optimize program delivery; determine where and when to make program and technology investments to maximize opportunities and resources.
• Makes annual and long term planning decisions.
• Determine suitable engagement with corporations and/or alumni.
• Determine corporate relationship programs required to meet strategic and operational needs of the School.
• Monitor program effectiveness through monitoring and assessing evaluations and student satisfaction and feedback in order to determine if the program is achieving strategic objectives and to develop, recommend and implement changes as needed.
• Through analysis and observation, determine appropriate policies and procedures and decide how modifications should be proposed and implemented if necessary.
