Job Description / Duties

POSITION OUTLINE: As a member of the Career Management Centre’s leadership team, the Manager, Employer Engagement contributes to the Centre’s strategic goals and is responsible for generating full-time, internship, and part-time opportunities for Beedie graduates. The incumbent takes lead responsibility for designing and managing the implementation of employer recruitment activities, programs and services, employer communication and marketing initiatives, and employer engagement activities.

The Manager serves as the liaison between SFU Beedie and the business community to facilitate experiential learning for current and potential projects and initiatives, including MBA Applied Research Projects, Internship Programs, Career Management Programs, Executive Speakers, and mentoring programs. The incumbent develops and maintains recruiting relationships with local, national, and international employers and industry association representatives ranging from senior executives, human resources staff, alumni, professional, and industry associations.

The incumbent promotes SFU Beedie programs to the business community and brings back feedback about SFU Beedie from the corporate community to Beedie faculty and staff. The Manager, Employer Engagement also oversees Beedie’s Mentors in Business (MIB) program which currently includes 2 cohort groups per year and 300 individual mentor-mentee pairs. The incumbent assists with the recruitment, training, direction and evaluation of staff and may serve as acting Director in the absence of the Executive Director. Please note: This position is located at the Segal School of Business, 500 Granville Street, Vancouver, BC.

Qualifications / Required Skills

• Master’s degree in business administration, counseling, higher education, or industrial psychology, and three years of related experience including experience in career services, corporate recruiting of university students, or a business function dealing with career services, human resources, or other management functions, in addition to supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Knowledge of higher education issues such as student development, counseling, and the unique needs of graduate students.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent oral and public speaking skills and excellent written communication skills.
• Ability to develop and sustain relationships with individuals from a wide variety of social, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
• Ability to work with, coach, and advise highly demanding clients.
• Ability to lead and/or participate on multiple team projects.
• Ability to interact with corporate recruiters and facilitate their successful recruitment of students.
• Ability to learn and understand business functional areas or industries (i.e., marketing, technology, finance, banking, consulting, etc.); develop metrics and evaluation systems; and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, anticipate problems, and forecast outcomes.
• Ability to deal with difficult individuals while maintaining composure.
• Proficiency with computers, including an understanding of database systems and the use of online technology.

Salary: $66,548 - $79,471
