Job Description / Duties

FUNCTION:
The Career Development and Employment Centre (CDEC) supports undergraduate and graduate students and recent alumni as they explore careers, develop job-search skills, and seek employment. The Director is responsible for the strategic leadership of the CDEC and coordinates all aspects of programming and outreach, ensuring excellent service to students and partners.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBLITIES:
• Develop and implement the unit’s strategic direction to support organizational goals, program objectives, and student learning and development outcomes.
• Represent the University while working closely with Provincial Government departments, local agencies, employers, recruiters and other university Career Services Directors across Canada in order to develop employment links for students through multiple networks and channels; encourage the employment and recruitment of students, graduates, and alumni for full-time, summer, part-time, and internship opportunities.
• Develop and coordinate innovative career and employment programming, services, and resources including individual career and employment advising, professional development workshops, webinars, self-assessments, print materials, and other resources and programs.
• Work with the Financial Aid Office to ensure the effective operation of the jointly coordinated Work-Study program; manage the Work-Study budget and projects.
• Responsible to assess, mediate, and resolve sensitive and confidential student employment concerns referred by students, employers, and faculty and staff members.
• Responsible for identifying, growing and maintaining revenue-generating initiatives that help support the CDEC financially; responsible for writing internal and government proposals for additional revenue resources.
• Build relationships with students, faculty, staff, other service providers, and alumni to inform them of relevant employment opportunities, programs available, and to ensure appropriate and adequate response to students’ needs.
• Work collaboratively with other Student Services departments to advance Student Services initiatives
• Assess the effectiveness of the Centre’s operation, policies, programs, guidelines, methods, and procedures and develops plans for continuous improvement.
• Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Centre. Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and directs/mentors the staff including student employees.
• Responsible to develop and monitor budgets and ensure that budgetary control procedures are followed.

Qualifications / Required Skills

• University degree in a relevant area such as Adult Education, Business, Human Resources or Counselling, a Master’s preferred.
• 5 – 7 years of experience in a professional environment, skilled in career or educational program planning and experience working with a diverse population ranging in age, backgrounds and culture.
• Excellent business, presentation, communication and ability to manage relationships from student to CEO level.
• Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, management and interpersonal skills. Strength in managing multiple priorities. Understanding of and respect for the values and culture of a university environment.
• Excellent knowledge of labour market trends and recruitment practices.
• Good financial management, budget planning and administration skills.

Additional Information

Salary: $50,667 - $65,868
