The Arts and Science Co-op Office is responsible for preparing students in over 30 program areas to compete for paid co-op work opportunities. The Office is also responsible for engaging industry partners who provide these work terms. The ability to generate new and nurture current partner relationships is critical to the success of Arts & Science co-op. A coordinated effort among the stakeholders of student, employer, and university, co-op programming contributes to the development of well-qualified graduates who are prepared to assume a productive role in society. Under direction of the Director, Arts & Science Co-op, the Manager, Business Development is responsible for managing the business development team, the internship team and the Marketing and Communications Coordinator. The Manager will develop and execute comprehensive business development plans, events, and marketing and communication plans to position UTSC Arts & Science Co-op as a leading hiring solution for employers within the GTA, Canada and internationally. The Manager, Business Development also is responsible for employer relations, interacting with employers to assist in the maintenance and growth of existing and new partnerships.
Key responsibilities include: acting as a lead strategist for business development related activities; providing the Business Development Coordinators with strategies and direction for enhanced business development activities; lead strategist for implementation and growth of events designed to foster relationships among Arts & Science co-op students, employers, and alumni; managing the business development and marketing & communications staff in setting departmental and personal goals, establishing expectations, scheduling deliverables, assessing progress and measuring the success of these initiatives; leading the staff in the planning and execution of program objectives; directing marketing and communication initiatives; and managing departmental operations in the absence of the Director.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
At least 6-7 years of related experience in business development, preferably within a post-secondary or non profit environment. Advanced knowledge and proven experience developing strategic relationships with employers and industry partners. Proven experience and understanding of business development practices. Experience managing staff with a strong understanding of collective agreement administration and managing in a unionized environment. Experience with co-operative education, career, Work Integrated Learning or other related student services programs considered an asset.
Skills:
Must have strong computer skills including the use of word processing, database management, spreadsheet, as well as ability to adapt to and learn new technologies. Experience with Salesforce considered an asset. Ability to lead and support change management processes to create a strategy to support adoption of the changes required by a project or initiative. A good understanding of the student and employer market and managerial/leadership competencies.

Excellent presentation and written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational, analytical and project management skills. Ability to speak in public, to train and motivate. Well organized, focused and goal‐oriented; proven ability to advise, to inspire confidence, to motivate and to persuade; ability to be flexible in working independently as well as collaboratively; exhibits initiative to organize and follow through with complex tasks to meet deadlines; ability to solve problems in a strategic and tactical manner. Proven track record of success in developing and implementing sales and project/campaign management strategies. Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle required (regular travel within southern Ontario). National and international travel may also be required. Requires advanced level of acuity to anticipate and synthesize impact of decisions made. Requires constant assessment of risk mitigating strategies to optimize results due to the complexities of stakeholder engagement.
Normal working hours are Monday to Friday 8:45 am to 5:00 pm. Frequent travel within the GTA. Regular travel within southern Ontario required. Some overtime on weekdays and weekends.
