The Employer Engagement Specialist will play a key role in maintaining strong long-term partnerships with potential employers to assure high quality opportunities by developing and implementing a comprehensive and sustainable employer development and engagement strategy within an assigned program(s), Faculty/Faculties, Territory/Territories, country/countries, and/or economic sectors. The incumbent will be proactive in driving the effort to increase a client base and close negotiations for the development of opportunities for students through maintaining and strengthening relationships with public and private sector employers/hiring companies. The Specialist will work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Manager – Career & Employment Services, Manager – Co-operative Education Services, campus-wide corporate development initiatives, and other partners to develop new and enhance existing work-integrated learning program opportunities for students and alumni to connect with employers.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will possess:
• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline as determined by the department, such as business administration, counseling, higher education, or industrial psychology.
• Three years of related experience, preferably in the employment or recruitment industry; including sale experiences, job search strategies, corporate recruiting of university students, or working with career services, human resources, or other management functions.
• Experience conducting market research, analysis, and identification of target markets. Knowledge of industry career options, trends and opportunities.
• Demonstrated history of being self-motivated and cultivating mutually beneficial relationships, including ability to develop and sustain relationships with individuals from a wide variety of social, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
• Familiarity with human rights, labour legislation and current human resources practices, including federal and provincial privacy regulations, and knowledge of local and national labour markets.
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, oral and written communication, presentation, problem solving and organizational skills, superior client relationship management skills and work effectively with all levels at the university.
• Ability to take initiative, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines under pressure.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and the occasional weekend throughout the year to attend employer or related professional events at various locations on campus and in the community.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, anticipate problems, forecast outcomes with tact, discretion, sensitivity to confidential matters.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within Ontario and other Canadian cities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office. Demonstrated experience using collaboration tools, such as Sharepoint or Google Docs
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge of current best practices in on-campus recruitment
• Knowledge of Canadian Association of Career Educators (CACEE) standards and guidelines for ethical recruitment.
