Category: EducationReporting to the Associate Director, Careers – Education & Coaching the Relationship Manager plays a leadership role in providing the highest quality of career development services to students (60%) as well as the development of quality, high-level external partnerships within a corporate sector to assure career opportunities for Rotman Commerce students(20%).
Students - 60%
Working with the Career Centre staff and Rotman Commerce student groups, the Relationship Manager develops and provides targeted student development initiatives as well as providing individual coaching and programming in the areas of career search strategies and career planning activities for Rotman Commerce students with a special emphasis on a specific industry sector. The Relationship Manager provides students with information and guidance to support them in developing realistic career plans as well as effective job search strategies.
Corporate Relations - 20%
The incumbent is responsible for establishing and managing corporate relations within the assigned industry sector or sectors on behalf of Rotman Commerce. The Relationship Manager will be one of the primary contacts for all prospective employers from this sector and also serve as the liaison for students interested in pursuing a career in this industry.
Education
Bachelors’ degree in a related field plus CHRL designation; career coaching certification a definite asset. A relevant Masters’ degree with a focus on adult/student/career development, is preferred. An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Experience
•Minimum of 5 years full-time, relevant, progressively more senior experience within the portfolio’s industry sector, preferably in human resources, recruitment or other related field.
•Proven ability to design and implement interactive learning programs
•Knowledge of the career services industry and university recruitment is required.
•Experience providing coaching/guidance is required
Skills
• Strong one-on-one coaching skills
•Experience in career and student development as well as experiential learning theories
•Experience in marketing, developing marketing strategies and promotional materials.
•Proven ability to organize and handle a variety of projects, deadlines and schedules simultaneously and under minimal supervision.
•Excellent written and verbal communications skills with a strong emphasis on influencing skills.
•Excellent facilitation and presentation skills and the ability to lead large group presentations; ability to utilize new technology;
Other
•Outstanding organizational ability, thorough knowledge and understanding of job search skills, presentation skills and an ability to relate well to the highly diverse and demanding communities of students and businesses.
•Possess a deep, as well as broad, understanding of assigned market sector and career development within sector
•Knowledge of industry career options, trends and opportunities.
•Outstanding customer service focus essential.
•Must have a good understanding of business students and employment markets.
•Ability to work independently, to set priorities and work schedules to meet deadlines.
•Demonstrated decision-making skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
•Tact, discretion, sensitivity to confidential matters.
•Able to work effectively with a wide variety of people at different levels of the University and with external stakeholders.
•Strong computer skills: good knowledge of MS Office; experience with databases and Content Management Systems Valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle is an asset.
•Travel within the GTA required.
o Education in adult/student/career development, preferably at the graduate level
o Demonstrated experience working with university students through program development and one-on-one coaching/advising
o Skilled in program design and begins each with learning objectives and measures their success through suitable assessment tools
o Well-versed in career, student development, and experiential learning theories uses all to ground their program design
o Understands the difference between coaching and counselling
o Skilled in both facilitation and presentation, knows the difference between them and when to use them
o Aims to empower students, instill confidence and resilience (not about doing the work for them)
o Understands how to work in collaboration and build strong partnerships with colleagues, students, employers, alumni and faculty to create a professional community that is supportive of our students as they build their careers.
Salary: Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: USW Pay Band 13 -- $68,423 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $87,503. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
