Job Description / Duties

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
 Advises undergraduate and graduate students on the downtown and Macdonald campuses, on career
exploration, career decision making and job search strategies including how to network and how to perform
research on potential employers. Advises students on how to conduct themselves at interviews. Ensures
students are kept up-to-date on job market trends.
 Develops and leads workshops, with relevant presentation materials, using information on a variety of careerrelated
topics, e.g., LinkedIn and other social media networking, pro-active and creative job search techniques,
CV writing, interview skills, adapting to the Canadian workplace, etc.
 Initiates contact with and responds to requests from faculty members, staff and student associations, on both
campuses, concerning provision of workshops related to the needs of the particular subject, discipline or
faculty; ensures that stakeholders’ needs are met.
 Writes and compiles information for students to be put on the CaPS website and in the Career Resource
Centre.
 Engages in development of new resources and programs for undergraduate and graduate students and staff
 Works closely with student associations to develop and deliver career related networking activities, workshops,
events, etc.
 Acts as a guest speaker at various functions, both on and off campus, in order to promote CaPS and career
development, and experiential learning.
 Keeps abreast of new developments in the fields of career development and experiential learning, vocational
guidance and job market by reading the literature, visiting various companies and maintaining contacts with
other employment specialists.

Qualifications / Required Skills

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education: Undergraduate degree (related field). Master’s degree in counselling psychology, orientation, education or related field, preferred.
Experience: Three (3) years' related experience.
OTHER QUALIFYING SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES
Experience in career and vocational guidance field with particular emphasis on delivering career development
workshops and advising students one-on-one. Knowledge of career development and vocational guidance issues,
the changing employment situation for students and trends in the job market, both in Canada and abroad. Proven ability to conduct a wide array of innovative programs and services for a diverse student population in collaboration with student associations and professors. Coaching, teaching, outreach, writing, public speaking and event planning skills required.
Knowledge about career issues facing students in the field of health sciences preferred. Must be detail-oriented to manage and update constantly changing information while also organizing work, defining tasks, prioritizing assignments, working independently and on teams, and following through with minimal direction. Must have demonstrated experience and ease with new technological applications; ability to use PowerPoint, Excel, and databases. English and French, spoken and written.

Hours/Week: 33.75 hours (Overtime may be required during peak periods.)
Salary Range: (GRADE 05) $55,400 - $69,300 (midpoint) - $90,100
Reporting To: Manager – CaPS
