Career Education Strategist (6 month contract)
Overview:
Under the direction and advisement of the Associate Director, Careers – Education & Coaching, the Career Education Strategist will help develop new programs and revise existing programs in accordance with our established career education framework. Building on current foundations in career and student development, these programs will be designed to ensure all Rotman Commerce students and recent alumni (1-5 years), enter the job market with confidence and a solid understanding of how their strengths, values and interests are coherent with their identity and program of study. Students will know how to successfully demonstrate their strengths and competencies to potential employers through the development of effective marketing tools and professional behaviour throughout the job search process. The incumbent will also explore possible opportunities to embed career exploration elements into the broader Rotman Commerce curriculum and co-curriculum.

Responsibilities:
•Review existing programs to ensure they have well-articulated learning outcomes, engaging learning activities, reflection opportunities, and complementary assessment/evaluation tools
•Revise monthly workshop offerings so they provide students with experiential learning opportunities and are tailored to the different streams of study
•Assess current online career learning resources for students found on the Career Centre website and Portal in order to identify gaps and recommend how they can be more complimentary
•As programming is rolled out during the fall session, student evaluation forms will be reviewed and used for further modification of programs and workshops and to inform new programming
•Launch a new peer program in September in collaboration with the CEC team including recruitment and training of the peers.
•Employ a variety of relevant teaching/learning strategies for peer orientation and training, and for the development of student core workshops
•Use technology effectively to enhance and support learning
•May also be asked to provide coaching and student support during the busy periods
•May also be asked to take on additional administrative duties to support the Career Education team and work describe above

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications:

Education:
•Masters’ degree in adult education or a degree in a related field (e.g., student learning and development, sociology, etc.). An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Experience:
•Minimum 5 years full-time, relevant experience working with post-secondary students in a university environment,
•3-5 years’ experience in designing and planning career development programs (or a related field) based on learning outcomes and activities, reflection opportunities and effective assessment and evaluation
•Knowledge and application of adult education principles, career, student and experiential theory and, pedagogical practices
•Experience in business communities such as finance, accounting, management, or marketing an asset

Skills:
•Demonstrated student programming abilities including the development of student learning outcomes and effective evaluation and assessment tools (may be redundant, see above)
•Strong facilitation experience required to help develop experiential programming
•Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written

Other:
•Knowledge of the undergraduate business education, industries, and career paths including entrepreneurial opportunities an asset
•Demonstrated confidence in presentation, written, oral and interpersonal skills
•Brings a collaborative team approach and positive attitude
•Comfortable using social media as an education tool
•Aims to empower students, instill confidence and resilience by developing self-directed programs that foster inclusivity and engagement of all Rotman Commerce students
