We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Career Education Specialist who will help contribute to this growing environment. You will be linked to a specific Faculty, developing and delivering a dedicated Career Development Program across all years and programs of study within the Faculty. Drawing on your knowledge of the labour market and relationships with employers, you provide our students, adult learners and recent graduates with career development and recruitment opportunities, which take into account the distinct needs of Ryerson’s diverse student body.

As a Career Education Specialist, you will design, develop, deliver and evaluate a Faculty-wide Career Development Program, including the creation of career-related resource materials to support students’ professional development. Works collaboratively with the sectorial Campus Engagement Specialist and stakeholders, including employers, to provide, in keeping with the curriculum, a full suite of career education, experiential learning and graduate recruitment offerings for a diverse group of students and alumni. Complementing Faculty delivery, develops stakeholder partnerships, and designs and implements career education programs tailored to the distinct needs of diverse student and alumni groups across campus. As the liaison between the Faculty and central Career Centre, engages in the sourcing of experiential learning and graduate recruitment opportunities.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications

Successful completion of a post-secondary degree program and a minimum of four years of experience in higher education, community development or graduate recruitment with experience with project management from development to implementation phase. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills in order to build employer relationships and showcasing engagement benefits to employers via e.g. presentations and 1:1 meetings
Strong knowledge of the labour market and graduate recruitment trends with the ability to interpret and communicate these trends to clients (Students and Alumni, Faculty, employers)
Knowledge of issues related to employment barriers and issues of workplace accommodation, needs of a diverse client population (e.g., first generation, Aboriginal, adult learners etc.)
Awareness of current issues in higher education, and in the retention and transition from post-secondary to employment or further education
An understanding of and willingness to engage in data collection, analysis, and on-going program evaluation as a central component of strategic planning and program development
Knowledge of current/emerging theories and practices in career education and classroom delivery
Experience in using social media platforms as communication vehicles for promotional and educational purposes
Knowledge MS Office, custom databases, Client Relations Management (CRM) systems and web-based applications, social media platforms, etc.
Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Entrepreneurial mind-set, taking an agile approach to continuous improvement of student offerings.

As the new Career Education Specialist - Graduates for the Faculty of Science, you will need to create, design and present to your manager a plan to introduce career education opportunities for graduate level students.

Traditionally, Career Education Specialists produce a plan that revolves around: -

1. Career Development Initiatives such as workshops, tutorials and other forms of individual engagement with graduates.
2. Career Outreach Programs such as career fairs, networking and employer events.
3. Work Integrated Learning programs such as job shadowing, internships, research opportunities with employers
4. Up-to-date knowledge of the labour market based on programs offered in Faculty for graduate level students
