The Associate Director, BCom Careers & Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans and initiatives for student career services in line with School's goals. The Associate Director, BCom Careers & WIL manages the team in the Hari B. Varshney Business Career Center (BCC) serving the BCom population, which is the largest student stakeholder at the School.
As a key member of the BCC's Management Team, he/she advises the Assistant Dean and peers on BCom career matters that impact the activities and success of the School. The Associate Director, BCom Careers & WIL works closely with the Business Development team to grow the UBC Sauder brand in the external undergraduate job market, working to successfully identify and bring to the student body the employers and jobs that best match students' interests and abilities.
The Associate Director, BCom Careers and WIL ensures that career management programs and employment opportunities are developed and delivered in conjunction with the BCom curriculum to enable students to achieve their immediate and long-term career goals, making career management an integrated part of the UBC Sauder experience. He/She ensures that students are properly trained and supported during the time they are business students in order to launch a career that best fits their interests and abilities as well as instill in them lifelong career management skills.
Organizational Status
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of the Han B. Varshney Business Career Centre and working as a part of the center's leadership team, the Associate Director, BCom Careers & WIL, manages professional and
student staff. He/she develops and works closely with senior-level managers in the UBC Sauder
School of Business, students, alumni and the broader UBC campus managers and administrators, as well as faculty partners.
Work Performed
- Develops and manages long-term and short term strategies for professional, personal and career development to BCom students, with emphasis on scalability of all services provided.
- Contributes to the overall strategic plan of BCC and as a member of the leadership team helps to set annual objectives of the BCC.
- Identifies gaps in the provision of resources and program support and develops solutions.
- In cooperation with Associate Director, Students Experience & Careers, leads the strategic development, innovation, implementation, measurement and assessment of professional development and other career services to improve current student experience for all BCom students.
- Regularly delivers analysis and reports to track career trends and statistics that are useful to staff, employers and students.
- Provides guidance on creation of ad-hoc career-related programming on a wide variety of career management topics using outside speakers and consultants.
- Closely and regularly cooperates with the business development team to nurture current corporate relationships and develop new recruiters to meet evolving student needs.
- Closely cooperates with Assistant Dean and Associate Director for Student Development & Engagement from School's Undergraduate Office to ensure aligned programming, services and excellent student experience.
- Implements program-wide activities that leverage the new Student Work Integrated Learning initiatives.
- Identifies gaps in BCom program related to Work Integrated Learning and works closely with Faculty to bridge those gaps so every Bcom students graduates from UBC Sauder with Work Integrated Learning experience.
- Develops strong relationships with various student leaders (specifically representatives of Commerce Undergraduate Society), and provides leadership and support to student leaders, clubs and university groups as appropriate.
- Leads, manages and provides guidance and direction to BCom careers team and ensures smooth day-to-day operations of the team.
- Provides continuous personal development and individual coaching of staff as appropriate.
- Establishes annual goals for the team, and continually monitors the performance and KPIs.
- Establishes and maintain appropriate systems and processes to ensure that BCom career services and operations run smoothly and optimally.
- Review unit budget and works with other senior leaders for a departmental budget.
- Coordinates with Marketing & Communications team in terms of planning and with the intent of establishing a BCC brand and increasing student attendance to BCC's events and activities.

Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of five years’ experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. - Experience in an academic environment with proven ability to work well with faculty, administrators, students, staff and alumni.
- Knowledge of BCom student profile.
- Demonstrated ability to apply and evaluate literature, research, institutional data, and theoretical frameworks to establish, manage and transform evidence-based programs and services.
- Expertise and experience in designing and delivering large-scale, complex programs including evaluating and measuring program effectiveness required.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and on cross-functional teams.
- Proven ability to facilitate dialogue between diverse constituents and to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
- Position requires flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours as needed to effectively implement organizational programs.
- Proven ability to work under pressure of critical deadlines and to prioritize a demanding workload.
- A demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse communities of students and promote inclusion.
- Ability to lead qualitative and quantitative research initiatives and analysis, including focus groups.
- Ability to effectively lead committees and plan meetings.
- Ability to conduct needs analyses, plan, organize, manage, monitor, complete, and evaluate projects within allocated time and resources.
- Ability to foster the long-term learning and development of staff through coaching, managing performance, and mentoring.
- Ability to develop and monitor budgets.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data, determine implications, and provide recommendations for planning, budgeting and monitoring.
- Knowledge of university systems, structures, process, and decision-making structures is an asset.
