Job Description / Duties

DUTIES:
Experiential Learning Coordinator
The Career Education Department (CED) at TRU will serve as the nexus point for the growth and development of career and experiential learning opportunities for students.

CED is part of the Faculty of Student Development and has a pan campus mandate to offer services and programming to Faculties and Schools across campus. The Experiential Learning Coordinator will work within the Career Education Department that includes a Chairperson, faculty members and CUPE staff. The EL Coordinator will work to identify and action new experiential learning opportunities on and off campus.

The Coordinator will be an advocate for experiential learning, and leverage internal expertise, resources and relationships that have been built by CED faculty over the past 25 years. By identifying new opportunities for students, the department will serve as a strategic connection for institutional focus and growth in specific areas of experiential learning.

Faculty Coordinator Responsibilities
Under the direction of the TRU Career Education Department, the EL Coordinator will have the following responsibilities:

Teaching and Curricular Development
• Develop and facilitate new modalities of experiential learning instruction and delivery
• Teach career and experiential learning courses, seminars and workshops
• Design curriculum, facilitate, and assess a new Volunteer Leadership program
• Assess the satisfaction and learning of students after completion of EL activities
• Work with CED faculty and university stakeholders to develop experiential learning outcomes
• Work with students to develop career action plans, disseminate labour market information, identify core career competencies, and assist students to make meaning of their experiential learning while at school and during the transition from school to work
Experiential Learning Strategy
• Support the development of experiential learning by working with faculty members and students across campus and via our Open Learning division
• Develop and oversee the Co-Curricular Record to track student achievement and involvement in leadership, volunteerism, and experiential learning activities
• Coordinate with other TRU Faculties, Schools, and departments to ensure students have access to experiential learning opportunities such as work-study, mentorship, career related resources and expertise
• Work with CED faculty and staff to coordinate the Peer Mentoring Leadership program at TRU
• Collaborate with campus partners to share best practices and engage in pan-campus experiential learning initiatives
Experiential Learning Support
• Contribute to the annual report that highlights experiential learning on campus
• Attend on-campus and community events to promote career and experiential learning opportunities for TRU students
• Work with the CED marketing committee and Faculty of Student Development marketing staff to highlight experiential learning within TRU and with external stakeholders
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners to create and enhance high impact experiential learning experiences
• Advise and collaborate with CED faculty members of potential experiential learning practices for development and enhancement
• Assist with other duties and workload assignments as assigned by the Chair in a collegial environment

Qualifications / Required Skills

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Humanities or a related degree with a focus in Career Education, Experiential Learning Education, Mentorship, Peer Learning, Career Planning and Counselling, or a combination thereof.
• Experience maintaining records using the Symplicity platform or other career / experiential learning tracking software.
• Strong experience and understanding of experiential learning, such as: Co-operative Education, Internships, Practicum, Service Learning, Volunteer Programs, Mentoring, and Project Based Learning.
• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive experience teaching and mentoring students at the university level with 5 years’ experience placing and monitoring students in experiential learning environments.
• Must have knowledge of the theory, pedagogy, and practice of experiential learning.
• Outstanding interpersonal and inter-cultural communications skills and proven ability to build long-term relationships in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
• Ability to work well within a team environment and make decisions under pressure.
• Post-secondary experience developing curriculum and working with learning management systems to deliver content. The LMS experience may include: Moodle, Blackboard, Desire 2 Learn, etc.
• Strong knowledge of regional, provincial, national, and international labour markets.

Salary: $59,180 to $88,386
