Job Description / Duties

The Career & Experiential Learning (CEL) department is a centralized unit that is comprised of faculty and staff within the Faculty of Student Development (FSD) at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia. The CEL department operates under a Chairperson that reports to the Dean of the Faculty. At this time, the Career & Experiential Learning department invites candidates to apply to the Employer Liaison Coordinator position.
Under the direction of the TRU Career & Experiential Learning department, the Employer Liaison Coordinator will work collaboratively as part of the CEL team to support students in their career education, career planning, and career development activities. The Coordinator will work with alumni, prospective employers and organizations who are seeking to recruit students from TRU. Working closely with the business community will be a primary responsibility to develop work-integrated learning opportunities throughout the region and province.


The Employer Liaison Coordinator will engage with the community stakeholders in the Kamloops region to develop recruitment partnerships that support TRU students in experiential and work integrated learning opportunities. The Coordinator will:

  • Meet and support students with the career planning and career decision making process via one on one appointments
  • Teach credit Career Management / Co-op 1000 sections throughout the year (as needed in the workload plan)
  • Have an opportunity to teach non-credit career planning workshops / seminars across campus
  • Market and educate communities on TRU programming to increase awareness of EL and WIL opportunities, as well as developing recruitment partnerships with strategic community partners
  • Build strategic relationships with agencies, businesses, training institutions, and other stakeholder groups
  • Attend employment related events to promote TRU students
  • Develop leads and coordinate initiatives to disseminate information about Co-operative Education
  • Work closely with Co-op, EL and Career Services Coordinators in marketing EL / WIL programs to increase opportunities for students
  • Maintain records of contacts and prepares regular statistical reports regarding community activities and recruitment partnerships
  • Create monthly reports to the Chair on the status of the project
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications / Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working in the Co-operative Education, Work Integrated Learning and Experiential Learning field
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in career advising, employment preparation, and supporting students through the career planning and career decision making process
  • Must have a strong work placement and monitoring experience
  • Demonstrated instructional skills and experience in a post-secondary setting
  • Must have strong attachment to business and industry, with excellent knowledge of regional, provincial, national and international labour markets/trends
  • Must have strong presentation skills to communicate with various stakeholder groups
  • Excellent knowledge of the recruitment and talent acquisition process
  • Superior time management, written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse populations, including students, employers, faculty, deans, administrators and alumni
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team that works in a centralized work environment
  • Must have a proven track record in meeting deadlines and follow through on tasks
  • Must have a high degree of professionalism and be able to work effectively in a team
  • Proficiency in MS Office software, database programs, Banner and Learning Management Systems like Moodle
  • Valid Driver's License

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: February 10, 2020 to March 31, 2021
