Building a Foundation for Today and Tomorrow: Reorganizing Waterloo’s Department of Co-operative Education and Career Action Webinar

Presented by: Peggy Jarvie, University of Waterloo

Friday, March 22nd

12:00pm – 1:30pm EST

The Department of Co-operative Education and Career Action at the University of Waterloo has undergone a number of changes in the past several years, to help meet the challenges of a rapidly growing co-op enrolment and the expectations of students and employers.  In 2010, department leaders began an initiative to examine roles and reporting structure, and implemented an extensive reorganization late in 2011 and into 2012.  This session will provide an overview of the changes made and why, the process supporting extensive organizational change, and our learnings to date.  The presentation is approximately 1 hour, with time also allocated for questions and answers.

Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of:

  • One process to design and implement organizational change with extensive staff engagement,
  • The major role changes in Waterloo’s new model, and
  • Some of the potential pitfalls and benefits in Waterloo’s process.

This information will enable participants to evaluate if and how they might approach a similar initiative.
